I just got back from a long and fun day at Disneyland for Princess Tiana's Showboat Jubilee kick-off this morning at 11:15am. I had heard that some big
people in the Company were going to be present, so I thought there might have been a ceremony similar to what WDW saw last week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vy5iKixM9yc. Unfortunately, there was nothing special except for the show
itself. There were lots of management-looking people (as well as many who looked to be their secretaries on lunch), and they had quite a few camera crews
roaming the area to capture the event from all angles. The show itself was great. I won't spoil it nor bore with details, for I am sure there will be video
up on the web soon.
If you watch the link I posted for WDW's version of the show, let me warn that it would be unjust to judge DL's show based on the WDW version, for a
few reasons. 1. Parading down Liberty Square simply cannot come close to comparing with a parade through New Orleans Square. 2. DL's entertainment cast had
much more energy, and the dancing may have been better choreographed. 3. I have not seen WDW's show in person yet, but from the video it seemed that at
least Dr. Facilier if not others were lip-synching to a track. DL's Tiana, Naveen, and Facilier are all performing with their own voices.
I saw the show twice, both the first and last one of the day. My favorite part is the parading to and from the boat; the excitement and fun is infectious. So,
grab somebody, come on down... to New Orleans!

It was, indeed, a very capturing show. When I was at Disneyland almost two weeks ago, now, I hadn't expected to be in one place long enough to watch the
whole show. But one of the days I had to be in a wheelchair (such an unfortunate circumstance...oye) I ended up being dumped along side the Rivers of America
right as one of the afternoon performances was beginning. It was such fun...I found myself tapping my good foot and getting more into it than I would have ever
previously thought. The songs are catchy, and, I agree with Von Baroketch, the performers had such great energy. (However, I was rather disappointed with the
parade through NOS... I ended up, more than once, up darn close to the performers on their way from the Mark Twain, and the non-specific actors are clearly
lip-syncing to the track playing throughout the area. Lip-syncing drives me up one wall and back down the other in the first place...and when you are three
feet away from people who are so clearly lip-syncing, it kind of cheapens things. I'm sure I know why this is better in the grand scheme of things, it just
bugged me...anyway...)
I think I was initially turned off to sticking around to watch Tiana's Showboat Jubilee because the film isn't out yet. I've seen a couple trailers here and there, but other than it has something to do with a "princess" and a "frog" I'm pretty clueless when it comes to the storyline...I'm a horrible Disney fan...I haven't done my research. So why should I waste precious attraction-riding time to watch a show that means nothing to me? But I'm glad I was forced into giving it a chance. :) I'm looking more forward to the movie than I was before, and I'm sure that's exactly what Disney wants to happen. |

I completely agree with the lip-synching. In the parade situation, there is no reason for them to pretend to sing. It would be more interesting to hear some
cheering and "Hey ya'll!" or "Happy Mardi Gras!" or something along those lines. That is why I was pleased to see that the principle
performers (except Louis) actually sang. I've researched and confirmed that in Florida, they are indeed lip-synching on the boat. One of my biggest
complaints in Florida has been the slow decline in equity performers in favor of lip-synching over the years. Disney has a Broadway business unit now; it has
no excuse for not providing that sort of excellence in the parks. I have found that Disneyland has maintained a much higher standard of live entertainment than
WDW, and that is a huge part, in my opinion, of Disneyland's overall charm.
I saw the movie on opening night at the Studios for the D23 performance. It far exceeded my already-high expectations! |

The film was being advertised while I was at the park in October with my family. It looks great with the New Orleans theme and all the trimmings.
