D23 Question

Anyone else wondering what the new, pricier D23 events are suggesting about the intended market and direction of the club? The events look great, but the value seems to be missing, especially considering that some of them include park admission when many D23 members are already passholders. Personally, I think it is great that Disney is offering these experiences, but I am not so sure how this fits in with the original D23 description. How is this not a typical merchandise club, like Marty...

They have an entire section dedicated to Disney. I have been sucked into trying to fool it by picking out some of the most obscure Disney-related people, places, and things.
